Lebanese Prime Minister Hassan Diab in an address to protesters on Saturday said that early parliamentary elections could be a way out of the crisis.

“I will submit to the next meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers a proposal to hold early parliamentary elections,” Al Mayadeen TV channel quoted Diab as saying in Twitter

He noted that the country’s government “does not cling to power and wants a nationwide solution to save Lebanon.”

The prime minister also said that the explosion in the port of Beirut took place on 4 August due to corruption.

On Saturday in Beirut, protesters are demanding the resignation of the government due to an explosion in the city port on August 4. The Lebanese branch of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies estimates that 120 people were injured during the protests. Red Cross and civil defense vehicles are operating at the scene of the clashes.

The explosion in the area of ​​the port of Beirut occurred on 4 August. The reason was the ignition of 2.7 tons of ammonium nitrate, which detonated during welding. The facades of dozens of buildings were destroyed and damaged, and the Russian embassy in Lebanon was damaged.

According to the latest data from the country’s Ministry of Health, 158 people became victims of the tragedy, 6 thousand were injured and 21 people were missing.
