US Senator Edward Markey sent a draft resolution to Congress in which he called on Washington to immediately extend the Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (START III) with Russia without China’s participation. Writes about this RT.

The document clarifies that China has a significantly smaller number of ICBMs, submarine ballistic missiles and heavy bombers, unlike Russia and the United States.

The senator also stressed that Beijing has repeatedly rejected the US initiative to enter into trilateral negotiations on an arms control agreement. In this regard, Marki proposed not to delay the prolongation of START III and, after the document was signed, to involve the PRC in the dialogue.

The legislator also stressed that it is necessary to demand from Moscow to stop working on the development of the Burevestnik cruise missile.

Recall that the START Treaty was concluded by Russia and the United States in 2010. The document is valid for 10 years (until February 5, 2021), if it is not replaced by a new agreement before this date.
